Melbourne City FC 2-1 Western United: Maclaren

Craig-Noone-Melbourne City FC

Melbourne produced a brilliant turn around win against Western United to take home all three points.

Melbourne City have edged out Western United 2-1, coming from behind to secure three points.

Maclaren failed to give the hosts an early breakthrough after making a mess of a brilliant through ball fed by Adrian Luna.

However, Western United were the first to get on the score sheet, with defender Vujica netting a free header.

Their happiness only short-lived when Craig Noone scored a brilliant curler to level it up for City and the scoreline stood 1-1 at half-time.

Melbourne dominated the second half but had a resilient keeper standing Filip Kurto in their way.

The Polish shot-stopper made a string of impressive saves before he was finally beaten in the 84th minute by Maclaren, who found the nets after being teed up by substitute Stefan Colakovski.

Jamie Maclaren, who appeared to have a stumbling day at the office at first, recovered well by scoring his first goal of the season. He ended up as the league’s top scorer last term.

Melbourne have produced an impressive win to bounce back from their defeat against Adelaide United. They are currently second in the table after three games.

Meanwhile, Western United will have to wait until the next fixture to get off the mark as they drew against Western Sydney Wanderers in their opening game followed by a defeat today.
