Fiorentina

Fiorentina will look to win their first match in three tries when they host Sassuolo on Saturday.

The hosts began their return to Serie A action with a 1-1 draw with Serie A newbies Monza last time out. Coach Vincenzo Italiano may have hoped for more, as his Fiorentina side dominated the game. Still, a lack of clinical edge, especially in the first half and a poor second-half display, put Monza back in the game, denying the Florence-based club maximum points.

That result left the hosts in tenth place with a ten-point gap to the top six ahead of this round. However, Italiano may be concerned about seeing his side winless in two competitive outings (D1, L1) after they collected five consecutive victories between October-November.

However, a second home match in four days may allow them to get back on track as they have won three of their last five outings here (D1, L1), scoring 13 goals in the process.

But Sassuolo are far from an ideal opponent, as Fiorentina last beat them at this venue in 2017 as part of a run that sees La Viola winless in the last four home H2Hs (D2, L2).

Possible Fiorentina starting line-up

Pietro Terracciano, Dodo, L. Martínez Quarta, Nikola Milenkovic, Cristiano Biraghi, Giacomo Bonaventura, Alfred Duncan, Jonathan Ikoné, Antonin Barak, Christian Kouamé, Arthur Cabral

Injured: Rolando Mandragora, Ricardo Sottil

Doubtful: Nicolas Gonzalez

Sassuolo

Although Sassuolo have a good record against Fiorentina, they might struggle to exert their powers this time, given that things are different for them.

The visitors are in a bad run of form, with their 2-1 loss to Sampdoria last time extending their winless run to five games in the league (D1, L4). The loss to Sampdoria means they are now just the second team to lose to a relegation-threatened team this season.

That form currently has them sitting in 16th place, just seven points ahead of the drop zone. Any further slip-ups could be catastrophic and send the Neroverdi into the red zone.

As they attempt to get back to form, the main issue for them to solve is their scoring, as Sassuolo have scored just twice across their last five league matches (D1, L4).

Concerningly, this record has been exacerbated on their travels, where they have already conceded ten unanswered goals in a row since Georgios Kyriakopoulos’ strike on October 15. They have also lost four away games in a row and will be desperate to avoid making it five.

Possible Sassuolo starting line-up

Andrea Consigli, Jeremy Toljan, Ruan, Gianmarco Ferrari, Rogério, Davide Frattesi, Matheus Henrique, Hamed Junior Traorè, Domenico Berardi, Andrea Pinamonti, Armand Lauriente.

Injured: Maxime Lopez

Doubtful: Mert Müldür
