France coach Didier Deschamps has refused to confirm his immediate future with the French national team after losing the Word Cup final to Argentina on Sunday.
Les Bleus had hoped to become just the second country to win back-to-back World Cup titles but were stopped in their tracks by Argentina, who won the exciting game on penalties.
Speaking after the loss, Deschamps refused to confirm whether he would stay on as France’s manager.
The 54-year-old coach who led France to their 2018 World Cup triumph said he would have to speak to the bosses at the French Federation before deciding his next move.
“Even if we had won, I wouldn’t have been able to answer that question tonight,” Deschamps said.
“Of course, I am very sad for all my players and staff, but I will have a meeting with the president at the beginning of next year, and then you will find out.”
Deschamps has been in charge of the French team since 2012 and has had great success.
Meanwhile, Deschamps spoke of the changes he made before the break that saw France come from 2-0 down to draw the game 2-2 and take the game to extra time.
Speaking on his decision to make the changes, Deschamps said: “They were tactical choices. I wanted to make a change because I saw we lacked freshness and energy.
“I just saw they were not 100 per cent, and there was a change in positions slightly as well, bringing Kylian [Mbappe] out from the wing because I saw that we were in deep trouble.”
