AS Roma coach Jose Mourinho has reportedly rejected the offer by the Portugal Football Federation to take over as national team coach following the sacking of former boss Fernando Santos.
According to several Portuguese and Italian sources, the Special One has been approached by Portugal for the vacant role.
However, Italian La Gazzetta dello Sport via Romapress has claimed that Mourinho is not keen on combining club and country coaching duties and has refused the Portuguese federation’s current approach.
Mourinho’s contract with Roma is valid until 2024, so he remains focused on his spell at the Stadio Olimpico.
Portugal remains interested in Mourinho but will postpone talks until the summer.
Meanwhile, according to Italian journalist Friedkins, any team interested in the Special One will have to pay a buyout clause to anticipate Mourinho’s contract expiry date.
