Barcelona’s reported request could worsen their relationship with Messi

Lionel Messi wins the Ballon d'Or 2019

Barcelona will look to ask Lionel Messi to take a pay cut this season.

According to reports, the Spanish club have incurred losses of around 98 million euros this past year and they’re looking to lower the wages of their squad in order to compensate.

Lionel Messi is the highest earner at the club and it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can convince him to take a pay cut.

The Argentine was linked with a move away from the club earlier this summer but he has now chosen to stay for another year.

Messi is thought to be frustrated with the lack of ambition shown by Barcelona over the last couple of seasons. The Spanish Giants were very poor in the League and the Champions League last year and the Argentine attacker is disappointed with the team’s performances.

Messi wants to win the top accolades in football once again and it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can help him fulfil his ambitions.

The Argentine’s situation at the club seems quite delicate right now and asking him to take a pay cut could be a bit of a risk. the fans are desperate for the club to hold on to him and the last thing they would want is the club forcing him out because of financial issues.

It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds in the coming weeks.

It is believed that Messi and club president Josep Bartomeu are not on the best of terms and it seems highly unlikely that the Barcelona president will be able to convince the Argentine to take a pay cut.
