Leipzig maintained their perfect home record with another comprehensive win in Bundesliga.
Leipzig have produced a comprehensive 3-0 win against Freiburg at home, thereby leapfrogging Bayern Munich to the top of the table for the time being.
The hosts found their breakthrough after Ibrahim Konate’s goal in the 26th minute. It came after a perfectly worked set-piece as Marcel Sabitzer’s cross found Nordi Mukiele, who then cut it back to Konate with a header.
Leipzig were awarded a penalty in the second half after Christopher Nkunku was brought down inside the box. Sabitzer converted the penalty successfully to give his side a two-goal advantage.
Leipzig wrapped up the game with a brilliant free-kick from Angelino at the stroke of the full time.
Nagelsmann’s men have responded well after their defeat against Monchengladbach, winning back to back games, with their previous one against PSG in the Champions League last week.
Although any of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are poised to take the first spot in the table after tonight’s Klassiker, Leipzig can relish that luxury for now.
Julian Nagelsmann also weighed in his thoughts on the win.
“We’re pleased to have picked up a deserved victory today. We started well, had a really good first half and our positional play was impressive.”
“Freburg put on more pressure in the second half and we had some slight problems. We were too deep and couldn’t get to the second ball. We made some changes to our formation and that worked well.”
