Gladbach 1-0 Dortmund: Visitors crash to a narrow defeat after Dahoud red | Bundesliga 2021-22

Borussia Dortmund crashed to a 1-0 defeat in the Bundesliga earlier today.

Denis Zakaria scored the only goal of the game for Borussia Monchengladbach and the home side managed to hold onto their advantage until the end of the game.

Here at Anytime football, we look at three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Marco Rose’s return ends in disappointment

The former Borussia Monchengladbach manager would have expected a better result on his return to Borussia Park.

Instead, he will have to come away with a defeat thanks to a first-half goal from Denis Zakaria.

The home side were comfortable throughout the game and Dortmund barely managed to trouble them in the 90 minutes.

Injuries have taken their toll

The Dortmund side was plagued with injuries ahead of today’s game and it is no surprise that they struggled to perform at their best against Gladbach.

The visitors were without Julian Brandt, Emre Can, Erling Haaland and Marco Reus due to injuries.

The likes of Moukoko and Malen were tasked with leading the attack for Dortmund today and the visitors lacked quality in the final third.

Dahoud’s suspension ruled out chances of a comeback

Mahmoud Dahoud picked up a red card for Dortmund on the 40th minute, just three minutes after the visitors conceded the opening goal of the game.

Dortmund were struggling to break down Gladbach with all 11 men on the pitch and Dahoud’s departure only made things worse for the away side. The home side were extremely comfortable in the second half and they managed to see out the game without any difficulties against a ten-man Dortmund side.
