Italian champions Inter Milan were held to a 2-2 draw against Atalanta in the Serie A earlier tonight.

Goals from Lautaro Martinez, Edin Dzeko, Ruslan Malinovskyi and Rafael Toloi helped share the spoils for both sides.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Inter Milan lucky to grind out a draw in the end

The defending champions were lucky to come away with a point at the end and Atalanta could have easily picked up all three points on another day.

The Champions missed a penalty and Atalanta had a match-winning goal ruled out.

Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco missed his penalty when he hit the crossbar from the spot-kick and Atalanta’s Roberto Piccoli had his last-minute goal disallowed because the ball had gone out of the play during the buildup to the goal.

Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko score for Inter Milan

Lautaro Martinez provided lead to Serie A champions from a superb volley, early in the game and Dzeko tapped in during the end of the match, to ensure one point for Inter.

The defending champions signed the 35-year-old Bosnian striker during the summer transfer window to replace Romelu Lukaku and the former Roma player did not disappoint.

Dzeko has been in outstanding form so far this season and he has managed to score five goals and pick up an assist in six league games so far.

Atalanta will rue missed chances

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side produced an impressive performance and they will be disappointed to come away with a draw.

Despite conceding early on in the game, Atalanta scored twice in the first half to take the lead.

The visitors showed their attacking quality after that and they continued to dominate Inter Milan with their free-flowing football.

Gasperini’s men could have easily added three more early on in the second half. Malinovskyi hit the post and had a close-range effort saved. Jose Palomino had a great opportunity to score the third goal of the game for his side with a close-range header as well.
