FA Cup: Mount, Werner, Havertz, Hudson-Odoi score, as Chelsea register win

Timo Werner-Chelsea

Chelsea picked up a 4-0 win over Morecambe in the third round of the FA Cup.

The Blues came into this game on the back of a three-match winless run and Frank Lampard will be relieved to have picked up a win here.

The Chelsea manager was under pressure after a run of one win in seven matches in all competitions.

Midfielder Mason Mount gave Chelsea the lead on his 22nd birthday with a fine strike  on the 18th minute from 20 yards out.

German international Timo Werner doubled Chelsea’s advantage and he ended his goal drought of 827 minutes.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored the third goal of the game for Chelsea and Kai Havertz scored the final goal of the game with a late header.

Morecambe could have easily taken the lead 10 minutes into the game but Kepa Arrizabalaga did well to deny Adam Phillips from close range.

It was the Spaniard’s 100th appearance for Chelsea and he managed to produce an impressive display in between the sticks.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and he will be hoping that tonight’s performance can convince Frank Lampard that he deserves a chance to start in the Premier League for Chelsea.

Chelsea had other chances to increase their advantage and Timo Werner missed an early header.

The Blues are now through to the fourth round of the competition.

The win tonight will have given them some much needed confidence ahead of a run of five League games that include visits to Fulham, Leicester and Tottenham.

Chelsea will now take on Fulham next Friday in the West London derby and they will be hoping to get back to winning ways in the Premier League and climb up the table.

The Blues spent considerable money during the summer transfer window and they will be expected to challenge the likes of Liverpool for the Premier League title.
