Rennes 2-2 Tottenham: Nuno’s injury-hit side held away from home

Tanguy Ndombele of Tottenham Hotspur

Rennes picked up a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa conference league earlier tonight.

The French outfit were 2-1 up with 20 minutes left on the clock and they will be disappointed to have dropped two points in the end.

Flavien Tait and Gaetan Laborde scored for the hosts.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Weakened Tottenham side

The Londoners were without key players like Son Heung-Min, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero for this game.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lacked quality and depth in the attack and the Spurs boss will be hoping that his key players can return to action soon.

Despite being handed an early lead through a Loic Bade own goal, the Premier League side failed to hold on to their advantage and they had to mount a comeback, in the end, to grind out a point away from home.

Double injury blow

Tottenham are already lacking in squad depth right now and the likes of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura limped off with a Premier League match against Chelsea looming in 72 hours.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping that the two players have not picked up serious injuries but it is certainly a worrying situation for the Londoners.

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg has been Tottenham’s player of the season

The Danish midfielder has been exceptional since joining Tottenham from Southampton.

He has helped the Londoners defensively and his ability to control the tempo of the game has been very useful for Spurs so far.

The midfielder chipped in with a vital equalizer on the 75th minute tonight and he is undoubtedly the pick of the signings for the Londoners this summer.
