Chelsea prepared to sell Antonio Rudiger and sign Jules Kounde

Anthony Rudiger of Chelsea againsr Leicester City in Premier League

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger struggled to hold down a regular starting berth under former manager Frank Lampard.

However, the arrival of Thomas Tuchel handed the German international a new lease of life at Stamford Bridge and he managed to develop into a key player for the Premier League side.

The 28-year-old is undoubtedly the best centre back at the club right now and he has been outstanding for Thomas Tuchel since the second half of last season.

Rudiger was integral to Chelsea’s Champions League success last year and he has become a cult hero at Stamford Bridge.

However, it appears that Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia is prepared to sell the defender in January and sign Jules Kounde as his replacement from Sevilla.

The Blues were in pursuit of the French international during the summer transfer window as well but the La Liga outfit refused to sell him for a reasonable price.

Kounde is undoubtedly one of the best young defenders around Europe right now and he could prove to be a sensational long term investment for Chelsea.

However, selling a key player like Rudiger could prove to be a mistake from the Blues.

Instead, they should look to replace the older players like Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva.

Rudiger is at the peak of his powers right now and he could be a key player for Chelsea over the next five years.

Recently, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel gave his approval regarding a new contract for the defender but it seems that the two parties have not been able to secure an agreement yet.

It will be interesting to see how the 28-year-old German international’s situation unfolds at the London club over the coming weeks now.
