Juventus lost the Super Cup to Lazio, despite Ronaldo, Dybala and Higuain starter

Lazio won the Italian Super Cup, defeating Juventus 3-1 in King Saud University Stadium, Riyadh. Simeone Inzaghi’s side came out on top in an entertaining clash in Saudi Arabia.

Juventus started with Ronaldo-Higuain-Dybala

Lazio, the Italian Cup winners, led after 16 minutes through Luis Alberto’s goal, but Paulo Dybala leveled for Juventus with a smooth finish at the end of the first half. But Lazio regained the lead with 17 minutes to go thanks to Senad Lulic’s volley, and any hope Juventus had of getting back into the match ended in injury time.

Rodrigo Bentacur was sent off in stoppage time, and Danilo Cataldi curled home the resulting free-kick to seal a 3-1 win for Lazio. Maurizio Sarri has only lost two games as Juventus manager, but they have both been against Lazio – and they have both been by a 3-1 scoreline.

The Old Lady were beaten by Lazio in their Serie A clash two weeks ago and couldn’t get revenge in Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo was not interested in Silver

Anyone thinking Ronaldo would react badly to the defeat was spot on, as he showed when he received his silver medal at full-time. The Portuguese superstar barely waited for the medal to touch his chest before he ripped it off and, presumably, threw it in the bin.

It’s hardly surprising. The 34-year-old’s house is filled with prestigious accolades – he certainly doesn’t need a reminder of the time he finished second.
