Juventus

Max Allegri and Juventus must be delighted over the weekend as they finally broke into the Serie A top four after months of hanging outside of the zone, thanks to a 2-0 win over Cagliari.

Goals from January signings Dusan Vlahovic (13 minutes into this Juventus debut) and Denis Zakaria in the second half secured the win for Juve. They allowed them to climb into fourth place and take advantage of Atalanta’s shock loss to Cagliari.

The win was also the hosts’ ninth win in their last 13 games, highlighting the consistency they are now enjoying after a difficult November.

They booked their place in this round of the tournament by beating Sampdoria 4-1 in the previous round.

Given their record in this fixture, they will fancy their chances of a big win on this occasion. They will also be desperate to avenge their 2-1 home loss to Sassuolo the last time both teams met in the league.

Possible Juventus starting line-up

Wojciech Szczesny (GK); Juan Cuadrado, Matthijs de Ligt, Daniele Rugani, Mattia De Sciglio; Arthur Melo, Adrien Rabiot, Weston McKennie; Paulo Dybala, Moise Kean, Dusan Vlahovic.

Injured: Federico Chiesa, Giorgio Chiellini

Doubtful: Federico Bernardeschi, Alex Sandro

Suspended: None

Sassuolo

Sassuolo’s poor run in the league continued on Sunday with a shocking 4-0 loss to Sampdoria. Early goals from Francesco Caputo and Stefano Sensi set the ball rolling before substitute Andrea Conti and Antonio Candreva sealed the win for the hosts.

The loss pushed them down to 12th place in the league standings, ten points behind Lazio in sixth place.

At some point in this season, Marco Giampaolo’s side were competing for a top-six finish. But they have endured a poor run of form in recent times, winning just two of their last ten league games.

But in this tournament, they defeated Cagliari to book their place in this round. Having won against Juventus in their last head-to-head meeting, they will hope for another shock win on this occasion.

Possible Sassuolo starting line-up

Andrea Consigli (GK); Jeremy Toljan, Vlad Chiriches, Gian Marco Ferrari, Giorgos Kyriakopoulos; Maxime Lopez, Davide Frattesi, Abdou Harroui; Domenico Berardi, Giacomo Raspadori; Gianluca Scamacca.
