Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga earlier today.

Inigo Martinez scored the opening goal of the game for the home side on the 50th minute and Barcelona responded with the equalizer 25 minutes later through summer signing Memphis Depay.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Contrasting performances from new signings

Memphis Depay will be delighted to have scored a vital equalizer for his side today.

The Dutchman has managed to adapt quickly and he seems to have hit the ground running.

Meanwhile, defender Eric Garcia had a night to forget as he was sent off deep into injury time. The youngster is set for a spell on the sidelines and he will be hoping to learn from this and improve in the coming weeks.

Athletic club could have pulled off a positive result

Despite being a weaker side as compared to Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao produced an impressive performance and they could have easily won the game.

The home side had more shots on target and more corners at their disposal. Barcelona controlled the possession but Athletic Bilbao were efficient going forward.

The injury to Gerard Pique

Experienced Barcelona defender Gerard Pique had to be taken off after 30 minutes into the game.

The defender had gone down after an aerial duel with Alex Berenguer and Barcelona will be hoping to have him back fit and ready as soon as possible.

With Garcia suspended, the Catalan giants are severely lacking in good defensive options right now.
