Barcelona could return for Man City player to replace injured Gerard Pique

Barcelona 0-1 Athletic - Barca knocked out of Copa del Rey at injury time

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has picked up a serious knee injury and it could affect the Spanish club’s January transfer plans.

The highly experienced centre back suffered a cruciate ligament injury and he is likely to be ruled out for the season.

According to reports, Barcelona could now look to move for the Manchester City defender Eric Garcia.

The Spanish club wanted to sign the Manchester City defender back in the summer as well but they refused to pay the asking price for him.

Barcelona are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements now and they’re likely to be more keen on meeting Manchester City’s demands this time around.

Eric Garcia is highly rated around Europe and Manchester City would not want to lose him. But the player will be a free agent at the end of this season and the Premier League side cannot afford to lose him on a free transfer.

If Garcia refuses to extend his contract with the Premier League club, they will be forced to cash in on him in January.

A move to Barcelona would be the ideal next step in Eric Garcia’s career. The youngster is thought to be keen on a return to Spain and Barcelona are also looking to bring him back to the club.

The young defender rose through the La Masia Academy and it is hardly surprising that he wants to return home.

Garcia has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester City after the signings of Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake. He needs to play more first in football and a return to Barcelona might allow him to do just that.
