The Catalan defender has reflected on the humiliating defeat against Bayern.
Gerard Pique has reflected on Barcelona’s humiliating defeat against Bayern Munich, stating that Barca should undergo an overhaul.
The Catalans suffered a shocking 8-2 defeat in the hands of the Bundesliga Champions in quarter-finals.
Pique said,
“We all need to reflect deeply, the club needs lots of changes, I’m not talking about the coach, players – I don’t want to point the finger at anyone but the club needs changes on a structural level.”
The centre-back also said that he is ready to make way for his successor if needed.
“If new blood needs to come for the club to change course then I’m not untouchable and I’ll be the first to leave if needs be, because it seems as if we’ve hit rock bottom.”
Pique has been left frustrated with Barca’s recurring losses in the Champions League for the past few seasons.
Barca have now concluded the season without a single trophy – which speaks about the position they are in now.
In the light of the UCL fiasco, Blaugrana are said to be planning to fire Quique Setien. The former Real Betis gaffer was brought in midway through the season, but to no effect.
There were speculations for a while that Setien would not continue with Barca beyond this summer. Now with the Champions League exit, odds are stacked up against the former Las Palmas manager.
