Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has been a constant topic of discussion over the last few weeks.

The 37-year-old completed an emotional return to Old Trafford last summer, but things have not gone according to plan for the Portuguese international. While he has managed to impress with his performances, the team has performed below par and have failed to secure Champions League qualification.

According to the latest reports, the player is now looking to leave the Premier League giants and join an ambitious side. He has been linked with clubs like PSG, Chelsea and Bayern in recent weeks.

However, it appears that his agent Jorge Mendes is now speaking to Barcelona regarding a shock move. Guardian are reporting that the player has been offered to the Spanish La Liga club.

That said, Manchester United have been adamant that the player will not be allowed to leave before his contract expires next summer.

Erik Ten Hag is depending on the 37-year-old to carry his attack next season, but Ronaldo’s head is clearly turned. It will be interesting to see if the Premier League side decide to hold on to him regardless of his intentions to leave.

An unhappy player in the side could do more harm than good.

Ronaldo is an exceptional professional who scored 24 goals last season, and one would expect him to play at a high level even if he is forced to stay. That said, it would be a gamble for Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo’s history with Real Madrid might not be ideal for a potential move to Barcelona. He has scored big goals against the Catalan giants during his time in Spain, and he shares a frosty relationship with the Barcelona fans.

However, there is no doubt he would improve the Spanish side massively if he joins them.

Barcelona will be desperate to win a trophy next season, and they could be tempted to take up the option and sign the Real Madrid legend.
