Riquelme has backed Lionel Messi to return to Camp Nou after winning the Champions League with PSG.

Ex-Argentine legend Riquelme believes that Lionel Messi‘s chapter at Barcelona isn’t over as he backs the six-time Ballon d’Or winner to make a sensational return to the Nou Camp sooner.

Messi parted ways with the Catalans in the summer transfer window due to La Liga‘s salary cap concerns.

PSG came knocking on his door immediately and signed him on a free transfer in the end.

The Argentine’s signing has made PSG one of the fearsome units in Europe and Riquelme claims that the French giants can’t afford to lose the Champions League with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Messi in the same line-up.

Riquelme said: “I hope that Messi goes on to enjoy Paris.

“I don’t know if it’s strange, but we are all excited to see him enjoy playing with [Kylian] Mbappe and Neymar.

“If they don’t win the Champions League now, they won’t win it.”

Riquelme also backed his compatriot to return to the Nou Camp and hang up his boots.

The Argentine legend added: “I think Messi will win the Champions League with PSG and retire at Barcelona.”

The 34-year-old also spoke about the possibility of a return to the Nou Camp during his teary farewell with the Catalan club.

Messi made his much-awaited debut with Les Parisiens last week in the Ligue 1 clash against Reims, coming in as a substitute for Neymar.

PSG have drawn in the same group as Manchester City and Leipzig in the Champions League.
