The Uruguayan has offered his verdict on a potential return to the English top-flight.

Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez has said that it would be strange to play for any Premier League club other than Liverpool.

The Uruguayan talisman had a breathtaking three and a half year stint at Anfield, during which he announced himself to the world as one of the best strikers.

Following the Anfield exit, Suarez went on to enjoy a brilliant career at Barcelona, helping them win a plethora of titles.

Last summer, the 34-year-old completed his move to rivals Atletico Madrid after Barca decided to sell him due to his lack of form.

The dejected Uruguayan then poured his influence on Atletico, helping them win the La Liga title after seven years.

Suarez said: “Playing for any team other than Liverpool in England would be hard. “I had, and hope I still do have, such a good relationship with Liverpool fans that it would be strange for me to play for somebody else.”

The former Ajax star also regretted that he couldn’t win any major title at Anfield but expressed his happiness for the Reds winning the Premier League title in the 2019/20 season.

“It would have been special to win the league with Liverpool, but I am glad that their wait is now over.

“They look like a team that will compete for many seasons to come even if this one has not been the best for them. They are back where they belong.”

However, Suarez ruled out a potential return to the Mersey ride club, insisting that he has settled well at Atletico.

“At the moment, I am enjoying my time here.

“I enjoy it here; we are settled in Spain – there is no need to think about me leaving.

“When I think how well I have settled in at Atletico and the faith the coach has shown in me, it was easily the right decision for me.”

Suarez has recently scored in Uruguay’s 1-1 draw against Chile in Copa America 2021.
