Real Valladolid

For the second time in their last four games, Real Valladolid let a potential result slip out of their hands over the weekend when they were beaten 2-1 by Girona when conceding an 88th-minute goal.

The disappointing result means that the hosts come into this tie with just four points to show for all their effort this season. They could have been a mid-table club after five La Liga matchdays if things had gone differently. Instead, they come into this round of games sitting at the edge of the relegation zone.

Their league position does not tell the entire story considering that their loss to Girona was just the 13th defeat suffered by the club from 50 matches in all competitions under the management of Pacheta, who has suffered back-to-back defeats just once since October 2021.

After that game, the manager stated that he was sure his team will win a lot of games if they kept playing as they did against Girona. And so they will go into this game against a poor Cadiz confident of recording a win after failing to do so in their last four matches against the visitors (D3, L1).

Possible Real Valladolid starting line-up

Sergio Asenjo; Luis Perez, Joaquin Fernandez, Javi Sanchez, Sergio Escudero; Alvaro Aguado, Roque Mesa Quevedo, Kike Perez; Ivan Sanchez, Oscar Plano, Sergi Guardiola.

Injured: Luis Perez

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Cadiz

For Cadiz, this game will be about giving their helpless away fans something to cheer about.

The visitors have endured a horrible start in the league this season. They come into this tie on a five-game winless run in the league. Their most recent outing was a 4-0 loss to Barcelona last time out.

The result means that Cadiz have failed to score a goal in five league games this season. And so, they’re even the only remaining club across Europe’s top-five divisions yet to score a league goal in 2022/23.

This start is their worst five-game start to a new league campaign in any division this century, while their record of zero points, zero goals scored and 14 goals conceded is the worst in La Liga after five rounds of games.

It is almost as though Cádiz have just 45 minutes of competitive football in them per game, as ten of their last eleven La Liga goals conceded came after half-time. Unless they can bounce back with points against fellow strugglers Valladolid, manager Sergio potentially faces the painful prospect of being sacked if he fails to beat his former side.

Possible Cadiz starting line-up

Jeremias Ledesma; Joseba Zaldua, Luis Hernandez, Fali, Alphonso Espino; Ivan Alejo, Jose Mari, Antonio Blanco, Santiago Arzamendia; Alvaro Negredo,.

Injured: Cala, Jon Ander Garrido, Antony Lozano

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
