Monaco

Struggling French footballing giant AS Monaco will look to get their season going when they welcome fellow strugglers Lille to the Stade Louis II this Friday.

The eight-times Ligue 1 winners have started the league season poorly and are heading into this tie sitting in 11th place, 15 points behind leaders PSG.

Their goalless showing against Reims in their last outing just before the international break was the third game in a row they failed to score across all competitions.

Although they are sitting in 11th place, the tightly congested nature of the top half means that Niko Kovač’s side are only one point behind sixth-placed Montpellier HSC and six adrift of Lens in the second spot.

With a crucial Europa League game with Real Sociedad to come next week, the hosts will look to get a win here to give them momentum going into this game.

However, Kovac will be without two suspended regulars for this encounter, with defender Benoit Badiashile and Aleksandr Golovin missing out due to an accumulation of bookings. Cesc Fabregas and Eliot Matazo are also sidelined for the hosts.

Possible Monaco starting line-ups

Nubel; Aguilar, Disasi, Guillermo Maripan, Caio Henrique; Martins, Youssouf Fofana, Aurelien Tchouameni, Sofiane Diop; Ben Yedder, Kevin Volland.

Injured: Cesc Fabregas, Radoslaw Majecki

Doubtful: Eliot Matazo

Suspended: None

Lille

Lille tittle’s defence has not gone according to plan with five losses from their opening 13 games so far (W5, D3).

The visitors travel to the Principality sitting in 12th place with 16 points. They have lost three of their last four away games and are desperate to get a win here.

New manager Jocelyn Gourvennec is already under pressure to get his side going amid links with former Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, a poor record away from home will be a concern for the defending champions who have won just one of their seven away games in the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season.

Meanwhile, Gourvennec will be without Amadou Onana, who is suspended for this tie after he was sent off against Angers. Sven Botman (groin) is still absent while goalkeeper Leo Jardim is still struggling with a neck injury.

Possible Lille starting line-ups

Grbic; Celik, José Fonte, Djalo, Reinildo; Nanitamo Ikone, Benjamin Andre, Renato Sanches, Jonathan Bamba; Jonathan David, Burak Yilmaz.

Injured: Sven Botman, Leo Jardim

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Amadou Onana
