Manchester City 2-1 West Ham: Dias, Stones score as City extend their winning run

The centre-halves of Man City found the scoresheet to edge out Hammers.

Manchester City are looking unstoppable at the moment as they have extended their winning streak to 20 games across all competitions -14 in the Premier League – after beating West Ham 2-1 at home.

Hammers posed as threatening opponents as they hadn’t suffered a defeat in their last four games.

Man City, as expected, controlled the possession for the larger parts of the games and on the other hand, David Moyes was happy to see his side deploy a deep defensive block.

The hosts had their breakthrough just before the half-hour mark when Ruben Dias found the nets after Kevin de Bruyne provided a brilliant assist.

Hammers striker Michail Antonio levelled before half-time, with Jesse Lingard providing the assist.

City had been struggling to beat down the deep compact defence of West Hammers until John Stones came for the rescue. The English centre-back found himself in a promising position to send Riyad Mahrez’s ball into the nets past Darren Randolph.

Pep Guardiola’s side maintained their healthy run in the Premier League and have 13 points clear at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Hammers failed to close the gap with third-place Leicester City, who are three points ahead.

Dias and Stones had another memorable outing for Citizens and while they were hailed for their defensive performances in the previous games, tonight the duo exhibited their goalscoring instincts.

City will face Wolves in their next fixture and will look to exact revenge for the defeat they suffered in the reverse fixture.
