Star striker Robert Lewandowski has scored more goals this Bundesliga season (13) than the entire Augsburg team combined (nine).

The Pole has scored 17 times in 21 appearances against ‘Die Fuggerstädter’.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side need to score just once more to break their own 100-goal record for most Bundesliga strikes in a calendar year.

Augsburg

Augsburg’s start to the 2021/22 Bundesliga campaign has been very poor so far, as they have won just two of their opening eleven league games this season (D3, L6).

They went into the international break sitting in the relegation play-off spot after losing 1-0 to Wolfsburg in their last game.

Before the loss to Wolfsburg, they put up an impressive performance to win 4-1 over VfB Stuttgart at the WWK Arena on Matchday 10. They will hope they can put up a performance as good as that when the reigning champions come to town.

However, Markus Weinzierl suffered a major setback in the Wolfsburg game when Tobias Strobl left the pitch injured.

The 31-year-old is expected to be out of action for some time and is joined by Felix Uduokhai, Brazilian left-back Iago, and winger Noah Sarenren Bazee.

Possible Augsburg starting line-ups

Rafal Gikiewicz, Robert Gumny, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Reece Oxford, Mads Valentin Pedersen, Daniel Caligiuri, Arne Maier, Carlos Gruezo, Ruben Vargas, Alfred Finnbogason, Michael Gregoritsch.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich will travel to Augsburg looking to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.

The visitors ended Freiburg’s unbeaten start of the season last time out to move four points clear at the top. Goals from Leon Goretzka and Lewandowski ensured that the defending champions extended their winning run in the Bundesliga to four consecutive games.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have been ruthless in front of goal this season having scored 40 times in just 11 league games. They are closing on a Bundesliga scoring record of over 100 Bundesliga goals in a calendar year and will fancy their chances of breaking that record in this game.

Meanwhile, the German trio of Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala have all trained with the team after their involvements with the national team but Niklas Süle and Josip Stanisic will miss the trip.

Possible Bayern Munich starting line-ups

Manuel Neuer, Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez, Alphonso Davies, Joshua Kimmich, Corentin Tolisso, Kingsley Coman, Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, Robert Lewandowski.

Prediction

Augsburg 1-4 Bayern Munich
