Chelsea confident of signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-Arsenal

Chelsea are increasingly confident of landing former Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang according to reports.

The Blues are targeting at least three signings before the transfer window closes and are close to finalising a deal for Aubameyang who, if he joins, will become the club’s seventh major signing this summer.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are looking to fill the void left by the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner whose loan moves have left Chelsea light in attack.

They have navigated their opening three games without a senior, out-and-out striker. They have identified Aubameyang, who is well known to Tuchel, as the ideal candidate to lead the line.

According to Sportsmail, talks are progressing positively with Barcelona over a deal that will be worth around £20m.

Personal terms are not expected to present any obstacles, as the 33-year-old is keen on joining a club where he will be a regular starter. The Gabon international scored 79 goals in just 95 games under Tuchel in Germany.

As well as Aubameyang, Chelsea are also continuing their attempts to lure Anthony Gordon from Everton while they are also plotting a third bid for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana.

According to reports, negotiations are ongoing with Everton over a move for the 21-year-old Gordon, who is keen to move to Tuchel’s side.

Chelsea are also looking to present an improved offer for Fofana after Leicester City rejected two Chelsea bids of £60m and £65m for the French centre-back. The Foxes were initially reluctant to sell Fofana, but with the 21-year-old desperate to leave, they have softened their stance even though they still want a world record fee for a defender of over £80m.

Fofana has already agreed on personal terms with Tuchel’s side and he was left out of Leicester’s 2-1 defeat to Southampton on Saturday.
