Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a move for Leeds United winger Daniel James as they prepare to replace Bryan Gil who is set to join Valencia soon.

Spurs have opened talks with Valencia for the 21-year-old and according to Sportsmail, discussions are in an advanced stage. Antonio Conte’s side are focused on trimming their squad after bringing in seven signings this summer.

But with Gil leaving, Conte wants to bring in another player to beef up his squad.

The Italian has been vocal about wanting to replace the Spaniard, and James is a player who has drawn the interest of the north London club in the past.

When asked about the possibility of Gil leaving the club, Conte said: “This squad is this and if someone goes away, then another has to come. This has to be very clear for everybody.

“Otherwise, we stay with this squad and we continue our path with these players, this squad. But if someone has to go away, another must come.

“This is very clear for me, for the club, but we are totally agreed on this aspect.”

Gil joined the club only last summer from Sevilla. But he failed to impress either Jose Mourinho or Conte, making just 20 games and recording one assist for the north London side.

Meanwhile, Gil is not the only player likely to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer as Conte makes it clear who is in his plans for the future.

Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon is another player who is on the exit list at Tottenham. The Spaniard is thought to be on the radar of Nottingham Forest, who are pushing to sign him on loan. But due to a niggling injury issue, the Premier League newbies are reluctant to sanction the deal.
