Chelsea boss Lampard plotting a major defence overhaul

Chelsea and Tottenham are in race for Lamare Bogarde

Chelsea are plotting a major defensive overhaul this summer.

The Blues have been leaky at the back this season and they have conceded 54 goals in the Premier League, which is more than any other top half side.

Frank Lampard is prepared to solve his team’s defensive problems in the transfer market now.

As per reports, Chelsea will sell four to five players in a bid to improve their back line.

Zouma, Christensen, Palmieri and Alonso are expected to be moved on this summer. Defensive midfielder N’Golo Kante could be sold as well.

It will be interesting to see who comes in to replace these players next season.

Chelsea have been linked with Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez and Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell.

Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger are set to stay at the club after managing to convince Lampard of their quality this season.

Zouma and Christensen were considered as top class talents at one point but their developments have stalled due to lack of game time and injuries.

The two players need to move on in order to resurrect their careers. A move away from Chelsea would be the best for all parties.

Chelsea will be hoping to challenge for the Premier League title next year and they know that the defence has to improve in order for that to happen.

City and Liverpool are both excellent defensively and United have improved a lot in that department as well.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can find the necessary additions before the start of the next season.
