Verona 1-2 Inter: Martinez, Skriniar score as Inter chase Milan rival

Inter pick up an important away win against Verona to fly to the top of the league table.

Inter Milan have edged out Hellas Verona 2-1 after a fine second-half performance, thus becoming the current leaders of Serie A table.

Verona was touted as the opponents who could interrupt Inter’s winning run given their impressive form this season, especially how they have been to top clubs.

The first half was a goalless one despite both the teams getting their chances at goal only for their goalkeepers to deny it.

Lautaro Martinez found the breakthrough for Inter after firing in a volley, with Achraf Hakimi providing a low cross. The Argentine striker came up clutch to break his goal drought after a few weeks. Hakimi has followed up with an assist in this game after he netted a goal against Spezia.

Verona looked as they have crashed the party for Inter after scoring the equalizer when Ilic took advantage of Handanovic’s spillage in front of the goal.

The Nerazzurri didn’t back away soon as centre-back Milan Skriniar scored a thumping header from Marcelo Brozovic’s cross, which later proved to be the winner.

Antonio Conte has now led his side to the top of the league table despite the bad run of form in the Champions League, which saw them getting eliminated in the group stage.

Furthermore, Inter have extended their winning streak across weeks and it looks like they would look to continue for the upcoming games.
