Chelsea

Chelsea will look to get back to winning ways when they host Man City at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The Blues began the new year on a disappointing note as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest. In a poor display at City Ground, Chelsea took the lead early in the first half when Raheem Sterling pounced on a loose ball in the Forest penalty area to score his second goal in three games.

But a poor second-half showing by Chelsea and an equally impressive display by Forest resulted in the hosts equalising through Serge Aurier. The result means that Graham Potter’s men come into this fixture sitting seven points behind Manchester United in fourth position.

After the game, Potter admitted his side didn’t deserve to win despite enjoying the lion’s share of the ball possession. “The performance level was not good enough,” he said.

“When the game was controlled in the first half, we didn’t do well enough, and in the second half, when it was uncontrolled, we suffered.”

Potter will hope his side will perform better in this game against a City side that have won each of the last three head-to-head meetings between both sides.

Manchester City

Manchester City will be desperate to get back to winning ways when they travel to London.

The Cityzens dropped two valuable points last time when they were held to a 1-1 draw against Everton. In a game that saw Erling Haaland score his 21st league goal of the season in just 16 games, a brilliant solo effort by Demarai Gray rescued a point for Frank Lampard’s men.

The result and Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Brighton at the weekend means that Pep Guardiola’s side are now seven points behind in the race for the title.

Although the gap is widening, City remain firmly in the title race. They will consider their experience in winning titles key in this race. However, given their form and that of Haaland, they can bounce back and make it four consecutive wins over Chelsea in all competitions.

Possible Manchester City starting line-up

Ederson Moraes; Kyle Walker, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Joao Cancelo; Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernado Silva; Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez, Erling Haaland.

Injured: Ruben Dias, Kalvin Phillips

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
