Luis Suarez-Atletico Madrid

After a first-leg win, Chelsea will renew their rivalry with Atletico Madrid this Wednesday with a place in the next round of the UEFA Champions League available for either side.

Stadium: Stamford Bridge

Results in First-Leg: Atletico Madrid 0-1 Chelsea

Key Statistics

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is unbeaten in 12 of his first games in charge.

They have conceded just 2.00 shots on target per game in those 12 games.

The Blues have kept seven clean sheets in eight of their last competitive games.

Atletico Madrid are unbeaten in four of their last four competitive games.

In their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the first leg, the visitors failed to register a single shot on target against Chelsea. It was the first time they had failed to do so in any UCL game since March 2019.

Chelsea

With a one-goal advantage in the first leg, Thomas Tuchel will look to get the job against Diego Simeone’s charges when they meet in London for the second time in this round.

Olivier Giroud‘s wonder goal handed the host a slender advantage in Spain, meaning that the game remains open and could go either way. But the Blues hold a superior hand in this tie and go into the game on a better run of form.

The London side have not lost a game since Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard, meaning that he becomes just the second Chelsea manager not to lose in his first 12 games.

He can go one better than Maurizio Sarri and not lose in his 13th try. But he will have to do so against an Atletico Madrid side who are looking to eliminate an English team for the second season in a row in the knock-out stages of the UCL.

Possible Chelsea line-ups

Edouard Mendy; Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger; Reece James, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Marcos Alonso; Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech; Olivier Giroud.

Unavailable: Jorginho (suspended), Mount (suspended)
Doubtful: Thiago Silva (thigh), Abraham (ankle)
Misses next match if booked: Kovačić, Ziyech

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have suffered from a drop in form in recent times and have seen their impressive title chase in the La Liga take a new twist.

They head into this tie unbeaten in four games but have also witnessed two frustrating draws in that period. They remain a formidable team though, and will certainly fancy their chances against any side in this competition.

However, Diego Simeone’s men must improve on a toothless first leg display that saw them fail to produce a single shot on target, if they will hope to get anything from this tie.

The Rojiblancos have met Chelsea on eight occasions in the past but have only won on two occasions, with most of their meetings ending in a draw. However, only an outright win will give them any chance of progressing here.

Possible Atletico Madrid line-ups

Jan Oblak; Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez, Stefan Savic, Renan Lodi; Koke, Marcos Llorente, Saul Niguez; Joao Felix, Yannick Carrasco; Luis Suarez.

Misses next match if booked: Llorente, Lodi, Savić
