Chelsea

After a hard-fought 1-0 win over Everton in their opening league game of the season, Chelsea will look to make it two wins in two games when they welcome their force rivals Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford bridge.

The Blues beat Everton 1-0 last weekend courtesy of a Jorginho goal. The win took their unbeaten run in the league to five games.

Having beaten Tottenham in each of their four meetings last season, the hosts will go into this tie confident of extending their impressive record against Antonio Conte’s men.

In fact, you have to go back to January 2019 to see the last time Spurs won Chelsea, with the Stamford Bridge side winning their city counterparts nine times in eleven occasions they have met since then.

With six clean sheets from their last six games against Tottenham, Thomas Tuchle’s side will fancy their chances of maintaining their winning start this season.

Possible Chelsea starting line-up

Edouard Mendy; César Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Kalidou Koulibaly; Reece James, Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho; Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling; Kai Havertz.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham will look to break the hold Chelsea have over them and get their first Stamford Bridge win since 2018 when they face Chelsea on Sunday.

The visitors opened their 2022/23 Premier League campaign with a huge 4-1 win over Southampton last weekend.

In an entertaining game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Antonio Conte’s men fell behind early in the first half when Saints’ captain James Ward-Prowse found the bottom corner with a well-taken goal.

But Conte’s men responded very well to falling behind early, with first-half goals from Ryan Sessegnon and Eric Dier giving them a first-half lead. An own goal from Mohamed Salisu and Dejan Kulusevski in the second half sealed the win for them and ensured that they finished the first round of the game as the top scoring side in the league.

And so they come into this tie sitting top of the Premier League table on goal difference. Their aim this season is to finish in the top four this season, however, given that Conte has won the league in every club he has gone to, a title charge is not unlikely.

But they will have to show their readiness to challenge for the title by beating Chelsea–a team they failed to score against in each of their four games last season.

Possible Tottenham starting line-up

Hugo Lloris; Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Clement Lenglet; Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty; Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son.
