Jose Mourinho predicted Eden Hazard’s injury problems at Chelsea

Mourinho during United vs Spurs match

Belgian attacker Eden Hazard has had a torrid spell at Real Madrid since his move from Chelsea in 2019.

Hazard’s time at the Spanish club has been plagued with injuries and he has now been sidelined for the 7th time since joining Los Blancos.

It appears that former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had already predicted the injury hell for Eden Hazard back when he was working with the Belgian at the London club.

Because of his playing style, hazard draws a lot of fouls throughout the game and it seems that the incessant attacks on him has taken its toll on his body now.

The Belgian is yet to justify his mammoth price tag at Real Madrid and it will be interesting to see if he can turn his career around at the Spanish club and overcome his injury crisis.

There is no doubt that attacking players often endure excessive fouling and the officials will have to protect world-class players like Eden Hazard if they want to see more longevity.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo have previously highlighted similar issues.

Mourinho said at the time: “People [are] in love with football in this country; people must be in love with Eden Hazard. The way, match after match, he’s being punished by opponents and he’s not being protected by referees, maybe one day we don’t have Eden Hazard.

“It’s one, two, three, four, five, 10 aggressive fouls against him. They kick and kick and kick, and the kid resists. He’s a very honest guy in the way he plays, but that’s another problem.”

Attackers in the Premier League tint to draw more faults as compared to players in the Spanish League and it seems that hazard has had one too many knocks during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian clearly needs some time off to recover properly and return to his best.

With the Euro 2021 coming up in the summer, it will be interesting to see if Hazard can get the rest he needs.
