Chelsea’s £22 million transfer masterstroke could define their season

Frank Lampard-Chelsea

Chelsea signed Edouard Mendy from Rennes earlier this summer in a 22 million pounds deal and the 28-year-old has proven to be a smart investment so far.

The Senegalese international has managed to settle in immediately and he has been outstanding for Chelsea so far.

Despite having quality players at their disposal, Chelsea were struggling because of their inefficient goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Since the arrival of Mendy, Chelsea have kept three successive clean sheets for the first time under Frank Lampard.

The 28-year-old has been a massive upgrade on the Spanish keeper and he has fixed a major problem for Lampard and Chelsea.

It will be interesting to see if the Senegalese international can help Chelsea challenge for the Premier League title this season and help them do well in the Champions League as well.

Chelsea have invested a lot of money on attacking players earlier this summer but the 22 million pounds they spent on Mendy could prove to be a season-defining signing for them this year.

The 28-year-old has shown amazing reflexes in between the posts and he has been assured with his distribution and catching.

He’s likely to get better with experience and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the coming months.

28 is relatively young for a goalkeeper and the Senegalese international is yet to enter his peak. The Chelsea fans will be excited to see more from their new signing in the coming years now.
