Manchester City crashed out of the Champions League after a 3-1 defeat to Lyon last night.

Pep Guardiola has now failed to deliver the European cup in his four years at the club. Despite spending massive sums of money on new players, the Etihad outfit have disappointed in Europe once again.

It will be interesting to see how they reshape their approach and bounce back next season.

With star players like David Silva moving on and Kun Aguero in his twilight years, City will have to start planning for a new generation of stars.  The likes of Fernandinho, Otamendi etc will have to be phased out soon as well.

It will be interesting to see what happens with their striker situation next year. Manchester City needed a clinical presence like Aguero last night and although Gabriel Jesus is a top class player, Guardiola should look to bring in another goalscorer.

Someone like Kai Havertz could be ideal for them. He would improve them creatively and add goals to the side.

However, the German is in talks to sign for Chelsea and it will be interesting to see if City can hijack the move. They have more money than the Blues and they have a better project as well.

The time has come for another rebuild at Manchester City and it would be fair to assume that another lavish spending spree could be on the cards.
