Captain Papu Gomez leads from front in the away win against Torino.

Atalanta are off to a perfect start in Serie A after thrashing Torino in their opening game at Olympic Grande Torino Stadium.

The hosts looked dangerous in the opening minutes as Simone Zaza hit the crossbar before Torino skipper scored the opener after catching Atalanta on break.

Soon, Atalanta skipper Papu Gomez provided the equalizer through a fantastic effort.

The Argentine playmaker produced an immaculate display as he went on to provide two more assists.

The visitors gained the foothold after Luis Muriel and Hateboer found the nets in the first half despite Belotti completing his brace.

Dutch midfielder Marten de Roon scored another goal in the 54th minute, thereby winning the game 4-2.

The game also saw the Atalanta skipper Gomez reach his 100th career goal in 200 appearances in Serie A. The 33-year-old has been called to the Argentine national team for the World Cup Qualifiers.

Besides, San Lammers made his debut for Bergamo outfit, having been signed from PSV Eindhoven.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men enjoyed a great season last term and are now trying to replicate the form.

Last season, Atalanta ended up third in the Serie A table while reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time.

The win against Torino would be a statement of intent from Gasperini’s side as they would look to go all out for the Serie A title this season.

Atalanta will face Lazio in their next fixture in Serie A.
