Garcia speaks about snubbing contract extension

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia has finally opened about his decision to reject contract extension.

The Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of this season and Barcelona are expected to sign him on a free transfer.

Garcia said, “I made the decision [not to renew] at that time, what I will do later I do not know. Now, I am focused on City and the national team.

I am focused on this season, there is a last third where there is everything to play for, and now the three games with the national team. We also have the European Championship in the summer, and I must be prepared in case the coach counts on me.”

Pep Guardiola had earlier started that Garcia is a top player and so why the Catalan club are after him.

The 20-year-old has made only four appearances in the Premier League this season and he is currently with the Spanish national team squad for the World Cup Qualifiers.

City interested in Gladbach’s Zakaria

Manchester City are reportedly monitoring Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria as Guardiola seeks a successor to Fernandinho.

The Brazilian’s contract runs out this summer and City are contemplating his replacements.

Zakaria has emerged as a possible candidate after his steady growth at Gladbach to become one of the talented defensive midfielders in Europe. Furthermore, City witnessed him in action during their Champions League games against Gladbach.

The Swiss midfielder is said to be rated at £40m.
