Everton midfielder James Rodriguez has been heavily criticised as his social media post raised a furore among the fans of the Merseyside side.

The attacking midfielder shared an image on social media recently revealing that he is on his way back to Colombia to join up with the national team ahead of Copa America. However, the former Real Madrid midfielder has not played in five of his last six club games because of a calf problem.

His inclination to return home to join up with the national team squad has added to speculations that the player is not committed to Everton, and he could have been more involved in the last few matches.

The Toffees are very close to doubts about the severity of his injury, as Everton saw a free-fall in the Premier League table during that period. Everton went on losing 11 points in their last six matches with 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses.

Everton fans are thought to be unhappy with the situation, and it will be interesting to see if the Colombian can return at the start of the next season and win them back with his performances.

The blue-eyed boy of manager Carlo Ancelotti has been a hit at Goodison Park, but his season has been greatly affected because of injuries. The fans will be hoping for a more considerable impact next season, and it remains to be seen whether the Colombian can stay fit.

Everton lost their final Premier League game against Premier League champions Manchester City, and the Toffees were four points away from the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Even though he was injured, James Rodriguez was expected to support his teammates from the sidelines, but instead, the Colombian chose to fly out. But another source confirmed that the Colombian was given permission from Everton boss to travel back to home to prepare for Copa America.

The Spanish press have been critical of his attitude recently, and they believe that the Colombian was very close to what Eden Hazard did after Champions League exit.

The Belgian was spotted laughing with his former Chelsea teammates after the Blues eliminated Real Madrid from the Champions League earlier.
