Leeds United coach Jesse Marsch vows his team will always attack after an emphatic Chelsea win

Elland Road-Leeds United

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has stated that his team will never change their attacking style of football after their 3-0 dismantling of Chelsea on Sunday.

The American coach whose team maintained their unbeaten start to the new season lauded his players’ ‘discipline’ while declaring that the win was deserved.

“That’s not the way we are ever gonna play [sitting back] but you have to calculate how you’re going to play against these opponents,” Marsch told NBC Sports via Sportsmail after the game.

“I think that’s what is so pleasing, we were clear on the pitch, and aggressive.”

Leeds failed to take any points off of the top six last season, but against Chelsea on Sunday, they were clearly the better team, restricting the Blues to a few chances while asking questions of their opponent’s defence.

After the game, Marsch also acknowledged that his side were the better team during the game while praising his side’s confidence.

“Playing against the bets opponents, you know things have to go right for you on the day,” he said.

“The best thing about today is that we didn’t need luck. We looked confident, played aggressively and had discipline.”

For a team that was known for often conceding heavily Marsch’s successor Marcelo Bielsa, their newfound resilience at the back is a new phenomenon. The Lilly Whites last season recorded high-scoring losses to Manchester City (7-0 ) Liverpool (6-0) and Spurs (4-0).

But Marsch so far seems to have found the right balance between defence and attack with the Yorkshire the club have seven points, with seven goals and three conceded thus far.

Speaking about his game plan in the Chelsea game, Marsch revealed that his team won the game because the players stuck to their plan before the game.

“We had a few different match plans. [Chelsea] are flexible and variable in what they do. We even played a hybrid against the ball and the guys were clear and able to execute.

“’We really like our team. The energy inside our group is positive. They are hard-working and never get outrun or outworked and if we can not get outfought, we can add it all together for something special.”
