Liverpool planning swoop for highly-rated Serie A midfielder, Scholes questions Thiago’s style of play

Liverpool sweep Chelsea aside as Thiago sets passing record in 2-0 win

Liverpool to compete with Inter Milan for Rodrigo de Paul

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a bid worth £26m for Udinese midfielder Rodrigo de Paul, who is also a target for Inter Milan. However, the Serie A club has affixed a price worth £30m for him.

Jurgen Klopp wants to reinforce the midfield by bringing in the Argentine, who has been regarded as the best among his peers.

The 26-year-old has turned heads following back to back productive seasons despite Udinese failing to make an impact collectively.

He is also seen as a potential replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum whose contract expires this summer and the Dutchman is looking to leave Anfield for free.

Scholes claims Thiago’s style of play not suited to Jurgen Klopp

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has questioned Thiago Alcantara style of play, which he finds ill-suited to Jurgen Klopp.

Thiago hasn’t really gotten off since his move to Anfield last summer, with many deeming his transfer not a shrewd one.

Although Scholes defends the Spaniard because of his quality, he still feels Thiago would be a better option for all the top Premier League clubs bar Liverpool.

“I don’t think his performances have been outstanding or really bad the other way either.

“He has not quite hit the ground running but we all know the quality he’s got. I just wonder if this Liverpool way of playing is suited to his style of football.

“He doesn’t seem a Jurgen Klopp-type player. You think of the players he’s got; everything is 100 miles an hour. When I think of Liverpool you don’t think of a possession team.”
