Former Premier League star Rio Ferdinand has lavished praise on the Spanish international Gerard Moreno after this performance on Saturday.
The 29-year-old put on an impressive display for Luis Enrique’s side during the 1-1 draw with Poland despite missing a penalty. Ferdinand reckons that the Villarreal striker was the most effective attacker on the pitch.
“I think the person I was talking about coming into the team, Moreno,” said Ferdinand.
“I thought he was the most effective player in terms of driving forward at people at times or just having something little different to the other players.”
The player has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham United this summer, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
Moreno had an awe-inspiring season for Villarreal this past year; he helped the Spanish club win the UEFA Europa League. The 29-year-old Spaniard managed to score 30 goals, and he picked up 11 assists as well.
It will be interesting to see if the attacker can help his country win the European Championships this summer.
Spain are desperately crying out for more attacking quality, and Moreno should be a regular starter for Luis Enrique’s side from now on.
The Spanish have managed to score just once in their two matches so far, and it is evident that Alvaro Morata is simply not good enough to lead the line all by himself.
Moreno is in top form right now, and he’s full of confidence after a successful club campaign. He could make a big difference for Spain upfront if Enrique persists with him in the attack.
