Liverpool submit bed for Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong-Barcelona

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong.

The 25-year-old touch international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish club this summer and the likes of Manchester United have tried to sign him.

According to a report via Forbes, the Reds have submitted an offer of around £53 million to Barcelona and the Spanish club have been offered £7 million in bonuses as well.

However, Liverpool’s offer is just short of the €75 million fee Barcelona paid for the midfielder’s services to Ajax. Furthermore, Manchester United had offered €85 million to the Spanish giants for the Dutchman.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona are willing to accept Liverpool’s offer and let the player leave before the transfer window closes.

Barcelona are reportedly desperate to get the midfielder off their books but it seems that they will have to accept a loss in order to move him on.

Although the Spanish giants had agreed on a lucrative deal with Manchester United, the midfielder turned them down repeatedly because of the lack of Champions League football.

Liverpool will not have to face that problem because they will be able to offer De Jong regular Champions League football this season.

Furthermore, Klopp has a more ambitious squad at his disposal compared to Manchester United.

De Jong could prove to be an exceptional acquisition for the Reds, who are currently struggling with injury problems in the midfield. The former Ajax midfielder is highly rated across Europe and he could prove to be a season-defining signing for Liverpool if they manage to pull it off.
