Frenkie de Jong would leave Barcelona for one club – and it’s not the Manchester United

Frenkie de Jong-Barcelona

Frenkie de Jong is not interested in joining Manchester United this summer, according to new reports.

The Old Trafford side want to sign the Barcelona midfielder this summer, with Erik ten Hag seeing the Netherlands international as his top transfer target ahead of his debut season in charge at Old Trafford.

However, a deal for the midfielder is still far from done with Barcelona and United, still unable to persuade the midfielder to sign for the Premier League side. This is even though the Red Devils have reached an agreement with Barcelona that would see them pay an initial fee of £63m, with £8.5m in potential add-ons, to secure the Dutchman’s services.

But given that De Jong is owed £17m in deferred salary payments by his current employers, he is looking to stay at the Camp Nou rather than move to Old Trafford.

Despite this, however, De Jong is eager to leave Barcelona this summer. But according to new reports in Spain rather than join his former Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford, De Jong will rather leave for Bayern Munich.

According to Spanish publication Sport, via FourFourTwo should a move to Allianz Arena not materialize this summer, De Jong will rather stay in Catalonia as he feels he still has unfinished business at the Camp Nou.

The 25-year-old believes it would be easier to adapt to Bayern’s style of play, and is not keen on the Premier League for that reason.

Another factor that is inhibiting his move to Old Trafford is that he will not play Champions League football this season, making the move to Bayern or Chelsea (another club who are interested in him this summer) a more realistic option for him.
