Liverpool

After their Carabao Cup exertions in midweek, Liverpool will turn their attention to the Premier League with a visit from Brentford.

The Reds were held to a goalless draw with ten-men Arsenal in the League Cup last Thursday. With their key attacking players Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah both away with their national teams at the ongoing AFCON, the hosts failed to really trouble the Gunners despite having a man advantage from the 20th minute after Granit Xhaka was sent off for a reckless challenge on Diogo Jota.

They will now look to get back to winning ways in the league, but come into this tie in woeful league form. Klopp’s men are winless in their last three league games (D2, L1) and as a result, have seen their title hopes dwindle massively.

They come into this round of games sitting in third, eleven points behind Manchester City with a game in hand.

They are the favourites in this fixture but must find a way to break down this Brentford side in the absence of their key men.

Possible Liverpool starting line-ups

Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Roberto Frimino, Oxlade Chamberlain.

Injured: Thiago Alcantara

Doubtful: Harvey Elliot, Divock Origi

Suspended: None

Unavailable (AFCON): Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Naby Keita

Brentford

After a disappointing loss to Southampton in midweek, Brentford will look to get back to winning ways against Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The Bees were beaten 4-1 by the Saints last Tuesday, with Jann Bednarek opening the scoring for Ralph Hassenhuttle’s side within the first five minutes. German midfielder Vitaly Janelt equalised for Thomas Frank’s side in the 23rd minute. However, an own goal from goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez, as well as further strikes from Armado Broja and Che Adams, gave Southampton a commanding win.

The loss was Brentford’s ninth loss of the season and pushed them down to 13th place with 23 points. They are currently 12 points clear of the relegation zone and are not in danger of a relegation fight at the moment.

But they will be desperate to climb even higher in the league table by taking at least a point from this game. The last time they met Liverpool, they troubled the Reds and proved that they were not a team to back down.

Frank will be hoping for the same performance against a Liverpool side that has looked ordinary in recent times.

Possible Brentford starting line-ups

Alvaro Fernandez; Kristoffer Ajer, Pontus Jansson, Ethan Pinnock; Mads Roerslev, Vitaly Janelt, Christian Norgaard, Mathias Jensen, Rico Henry; Bryan Mbeumo, Ivan Toney.

Injured: Josh Dasilva, David Raya, Charlie Goode, Mathias Jorgensen.

Doubtful: Sergi Canos,

Unavailable (AFCON): Frank Onyeka

Suspended: None
