Real Madrid managed to win La Liga this season and midfielder Luka Modric has claimed that they always knew they would keep winning trophies despite Ronaldo’s exit.
Los Blancos failed to challenge for a trophy last year after the Portuguese superstar’s exit but they have bounced back in style this year.
Ronaldo was Real Madrid’s best player during his time at the club and he helped them win several trophies. The Juventus star was crucial to their achievements over the years.
However, Modric reckons that the team has enough quality to keep winning.
It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid performs in the Champions League. Last year they struggled badly and they have not been at their best this season either.
Ronaldo was remarkable for Los Blancos in the European competitions and he carried them to big wins even when the performances were not up to the mark.
Madrid are currently behind on aggregate in their tie against Manchester City and it remains to be seen whether they can turn it around.
Speaking to the media, Modric said: “We don’t need to discuss how important Cristiano Ronaldo was for Madrid. But I have to say we are not weighed down by the fact that he is no longer there, in the sense that we could no longer have the same ambitions. We were convinced that we would keep winning without him because, irrespective of the strength of the individual, the team was always above everything and that force is the strongest thing of all.”
