Liverpool

Liverpool will look to win their second game of the season when they welcome Newcastle United to Anfield.

The Reds put to bed a poor start to their season that saw them fail to win their first three games when they beat Bournemouth 9-0 last weekend.

In a largely one-sided game at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s men opened the scoring in the second minute on their way to scoring five goals in the first half while equaling the record for the biggest win in the EPL era (9-0).

Their aim will now be to build on that win as they try to close the widening gap between them and league leaders Arsenal who are already seven points ahead after just four games.

With 19 wins in their last 25 league games at Anfield, Klopp’s men will come into this tie confident of getting a big win. Their record of 21 wins in their last 26 league games against Newcastle at Anfield also puts them as the clear favourites while their record of 109 goals against the Magpies is their most against any opponent.

Possible Liverpool starting line-up

Alisson Becker; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Fabio Carvalho; Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino.

Injured: Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Ibrahima Konate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Joel Matip, Calvin Ramsay, Naby Keita

Doubtful: Harvey Elliot

Suspended: Darwin Nunez

Newcastle United

While Liverpool have enjoyed remarkable success against Newcastle at Anfield in recent times, things look different this time around.

For starters, the visitors are no longer the relegation-threatened side they were in previous seasons after they experienced remarkable changes since Eddie Howe took over as manager last year.

The Magpies are one of the five unbeaten teams in the league this season having won one and drawn three of their opening four games of the season. One of those draws came against Manchester City in a 3-3 draw at St. James’ Park while the latest of those draws last week was in a 1-1 draw with Wolves.

And so, they travel to Liverpool without a loss in their last six Premier League games and with the chance of remaining unbeaten in their first five league games of the season for the first time since the 2011/12 season.

However, injuries to key players Bruno Guimaraes, Emile Krafth, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Callum Wilson have put their chances of getting a positive result in this fixture in jeopardy. But having concluded the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak last weekend in a club-record deal, Howe will hope that his new striker will be able to slot right into the team and get a good debut at Anfield on Wednesday.

Possible Newcastle United starting line-up

Nick Pope; Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles; Joelinton, Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff; Ryan Fraser, Miguel Almiron, Alexander Isak.

Injured: Bruno Guimaraes, Emile Krafth, Allan Saint-Maximin, Jonjoe Shelvey, Callum Wilson

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
