Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski missed out on the Balon d’Or last year because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Polish international was left disappointed this year when Lionel Messi lifted his seventh Balon d’Or award after beating the 33-year-old.

The Polish international had more disappointment in store for him in the Globe soccer awards where he was beaten by the Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, according to the Sporting News

Despite scoring 69 goals during the calendar year and winning the Bundesliga title along with the German Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, Mbappe ended up winning the award and Lewandowski was left with the fans’ player of the year award instead.

The likes of Karim Benzema, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah fared well in the standings but Mbappe and Lewandowski were the ones who bagged the awards eventually.

The Bayern Munich striker will be thoroughly disappointed with the outcome. It will be interesting to see if he can improve on his performances over the past year and help his side win more titles in the upcoming months.

Meanwhile, Chelsea were chosen as the club of the year after winning the Champions League last season.

Roberto Mancini was picked as the manager of the year after his exploits with Italy. He guided them to the European championships trophy last summer.

Gianluigi Donnarumma and Leonardo Bonucci were chosen as the goalkeeper and the defender of the year awards after contributing to Italy’s Euro win.

Italy were unsurprisingly chosen as the national team of the year beating Argentina, who won the Copa America.

Txiki Beguiristain was chosen as the director of the year after a successful season with Manchester City which saw them win the Premier League title and the League Cup.

Finally, Federico Pastorello was chosen as the agent of the year for orchestrating Romelu Lukaku’s move to Chelsea from Inter Milan.
