Liverpool are reportedly closing in on the signing of the Porto attacker Luis Diaz.

The Colombian international has attracted much attention from European heavyweights because of his explosive performances for club and country over the past year.

The 24-year-old was outstanding for Colombia during the Copa America, and he scored one of the best goals of the tournament against Brazil.

Diaz has been in fine form for Porto as well, and he has 12 goals and three assists to his name in 15 league appearances so far this season.

The versatile forward has impressed against the top teams in the Champions League, and it is no surprise that Liverpool are looking to secure his services.

Jurgen Klopp needs to sign a quality wide forward in order to compensate for the loss of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah during the African Cup of nations.

Diaz could prove to be a quality acquisition in the long run for Liverpool, and a report from the Sun claims that the player is closing in on a £60 million move to Anfield.

Liverpool’s interest in the player is hardly a surprise, but the reported transfer fee seems quite steep for a player who is yet to prove himself at a top-five European league.

It seems highly unlikely that Liverpool will agree to pay £60 million for Diaz, and Porto will probably have to scale down their demands in order for any transfer to go through.

Diaz can play multiple roles in the attack, and his versatility will be an asset for Liverpool if they manage to secure his services this month.

The Reds are already struggling in the title race, and they will need to bring in necessary reinforcements to keep up with the likes of Manchester City.

Signing a player like Diaz will undoubtedly improve them in the final third and could keep the Premier League side in title contention. It remains to be seen whether they can pull off the move.
