Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing the Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

According to Daily Star, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all keen on signing the Uruguayan striker.

The 22-year-old has been exceptional for Benfica and he could prove to be a quality long term acquisition for the Premier League champions.

Darwin Nunez was in news in recent time when he scored two goals against FC Barcelona in Champions League group stage encounter last week. Benfica beat Barcelona 3-0 at home.

Manchester City have excellent relations with the Portuguese club having signed the likes of Ederson and Ruben Dias from them in recent seasons.

The Premier League champions are in desperate need of a quality striker after the departure of Sergio Aguero and Nunez has scored six goals in seven games this season. City will need a clinical finisher to compete with the likes of Chelsea, United and Liverpool this season.

A move to the Premier League would be the ideal step up in the career of the 22-year-old striker and Pep Guardiola could transform him into a top-class player.

The South American has the potential to develop into a world-class footballer and playing at a high level alongside world-class footballers could help accelerate his development.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester City can fend off competition from their Premier League rivals and Bayern Munich to sign the player in the coming months.

Apparently, the striker has a release clause of around £125 million but Manchester City are optimistic that they could sign him for a fee of around £70 million.
