Gerard Pique laments Barcelona’s defeat against Atletico Madrid

Gerard Pique Massive changes needed at Barcelona

The Spanish defender feels that Barcelona’s struggles are deeper than one might think.

Barcelona’s struggles continued after they lost 2-0 to defending champions Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Former Blaugrana player Luis Suarez rose to the occasion for Los Rojiblancos as he collected a goal and an assist.

While the result took Atletico to the top of the La Liga table, Barca dropped to the ninth position with 12 points.

Veteran defender and one of the captains, Gerard Pique offered his thoughts on the defeat, claiming that Barca could still be goalless even if they would play for around three hours.

Pique said (h/t Marca): “We started well, we went after them, we were brave, [then] they got on top. They scored two goals from very little and, from then on, we could’ve spent three hours and not scored a goal.

“The issue is difficult. It’s complicated. We are suffering, I have to be honest.

“We have to keep fighting, working, rest and disconnect and come back stronger.”

Pique was also spotted arguing with Sergio Busquets after Thomas Lemar’s goal. The Spanish centre-back explained that his side had conceded that goal cheaply.

Barca’s woes have deepened this season as they have managed only one win in their last six games.

Furthermore, their chances in the Champions League are in peril after back to back defeats against Bayern Munich and Benfica.

There were speculations about Ronald Koeman’s exit after the setback against Benfica; however, Barca president Laporta has shrugged off them by stating that the Dutch gaffer will continue at the Nou Camp.
