Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for several months now, but the 29-year-old’s proposed move to Newcastle United is on the brink of collapse right now.

According to a report from Daily Mail, Newcastle United were keen on signing the player on a loan deal, but Manchester United’s demands could end up scuppering any potential transfer.

The Red Devils are reportedly demanding a hefty loan fee, and the magpies were asked to pay a £12 million survival bonus as well.

Furthermore, the England international earns around £100,000 a week, and the entire package could end up costing around £16.5 million.

The 29-year-old has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and he needs to leave in search of regular first-team football. A move to Newcastle would have been ideal for the player and the magpies.

Newcastle will be desperate to beat the drop this season, and they need to improve their attacking options to climb further up the Premier League table.

Lingard was outstanding during his loan spell at West Ham last season, and he could have been a useful option for Eddie Howe during the second half of the season.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United are determined to deny the player a move this month because of their financial demands.

The Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has already given his blessing to the move. Still, the two clubs are yet to agree on terms, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few days.

With just five days remaining in the transfer window, the two clubs will have to act quickly in order for any potential transfer to go through.
