Bayern Munich confirm Julian Nagelsmann to replace Hansi Flick as manager

Bayern Munich have appointed Julian Nagelsmann as the club’s new manager.

The 33-year-old manager has signed a five-year contract with the German champions until the summer of 2026.

The German manager was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur as well, but he has chosen to continue in the Bundesliga with the Bavarian giants.

Nagelsmann, who is currently managing RB Leipzig, is one of the most talented young managers around Europe right now, and he should prove to be a quality long term replacement for Hansi Flick.

The current Bayern Munich manager is set to leave the club at the end of the season, and he has been linked with the German national team job.

Apparently, Flick is expected to take over from Joachim Lowe after the Euros. He has proven his quality at the club level, and he could be a superb appointment for Germany as well.

There have been rumours of tension between Flick and the club director Hassan Salihamidzic regarding the transfer policy, and that has reportedly contributed to Flick’s exit desire as well.

Flick has helped Bayern Munich win every trophy at club level, and he is set to guide them to another title win this year as well.

It will be interesting to see if Nagelsmann can replicate his success at Bayern Munich over the coming seasons.

In their official statement confirming the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann, Bayern have also confirmed that they have agreed to Hansi Flick’s request of having his contract terminated on the 30th of June.

In a statement, Bayern said: “FC Bayern have appointed Julian Nagelsmann as their new head coach.

“The Bavarian-born 33-year-old will move to Munich from RB Leipzig on the 1st of July 2021 ahead of the new season, signing a five-year contract with the German record champions until the 30th of June 2026.

“This comes after FC Bayern agreed to current head coach Hansi Flick’s request to have his contract terminated on the 30th of June 2021, two years earlier than its original expiry date.”

I made no secret of the fact that the head coach position at FC Bayern München appealed to me and that I would like to take on this job if the opportunity ever arose. The position at FC Bayern is a unique opportunity for me…

I didn’t plan to leave Leipzig after two years. The development at Bayern with Hansi Flick played a role. There were inquiries from other clubs, but I told Olli (Mintzlaff) that I would not terminate my contract for any club, only for FC Bayern…

RB Leipzig gave me the chance to manage this team. I will certainly not dig at my own players now. I am not going to rent a bus and pack a few players with me…

The things that have happened are very difficult to evaluate. It’s always nice when things are quiet at the club you work for. I don’t want to say anything about that. I wasn’t involved, that’s why they have to answer themselves…
